Woodilee Bowling Club

Woodilee Bowling Club was founded in 1911 and was located in the historical grounds of Woodilee Hospital. With over a century of history, our club has been an integral part of the community since its inception. Originally established to provide therapeutic recreation for the hospital's patients, we have grown and evolved over the years. In 1999, after the closure of Woodilee Hospital, we found a new home at the outdoor facility at Merkland, thanks to the support of the local authority. In 2021, we took a significant step forward by acquiring the property, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our club's story.

At Woodilee Bowling Club, our mission is to foster a love for the game of bowls within our community. We are passionate about promoting physical activity and providing a welcoming space for social interaction. Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do, and we strive to make our facilities and the sport itself accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Woodilee Bowling Club is more than just a place to play bowls; it is a thriving community hub that brings people together. Our members come from the local communities of Harestanes, Hillhead, Rosebank, and Waterside, as well as from further afield. We are particularly focused on engaging with areas that face socioeconomic challenges, providing a valuable recreational outlet.

We work closely with Active Schools to introduce the sport to students from six local schools, encouraging youth membership and nurturing the next generation of bowlers. Through partnerships with Merkland School and Campsie View School, we offer bowling sessions to students with additional support needs, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy of bowling.

Over the years, our dedicated members have put in countless hours of work to improve our Green and the surrounding grounds. Today, they are a tranquil oasis that provides the perfect setting for our beloved sport. With the recent acquisition of our premises, we have exciting plans to further enhance our facilities, ensuring they are modern, fit for purpose, and accessible to all.

As we embark on this new chapter in our club's history, we envision transforming Woodilee Bowling Club into a dynamic hub. Our goal is to engage with a broader demographic within the community, offering a wide range of activities beyond bowls. We aspire to be a centre for community gatherings, events, and charitable endeavours, providing a much-needed local resource.
